Hartalikateej in Indore

One of the very significant festival among Hindus is Hartalika Teej,  mainly celebrated through observing the Vrat (vrat means fast) by the married ladies and even by girls of marriageable age in many Hindu communities. Unmarried girls observe this fast with the hope to get an ideal husband like Lord Shiva and the married women pray for marital bliss.

Having whole day fast and prayers, women worship Lord Shiva, Mata Parvati and Lord Ganesha with Leaves and fruits. There is a myth behind offering Leaves to Mata Parvati, Mata Parvati for several years of worship and fast, she got Lord Shiva as her husband. And during those years, she only survived on the leaves of plants and fruits. As per Hindu Calender, Hartalika Teej Date in 2012, is 18 Sept.

There should be a scientific reason behind this too, as per any other Hindu tradition.

I think, after plenty of rainfall in the month of Savan (for the crops), people might be offering their thanks towards god by worshiping them with leaves, flowers and fruits.

Well, no matter, what would be the scientific reason or myth behind this but the ultimate objective is to Experience the God's Presence and Thank him for Everything.
