Pitru Paksha: Auspicious or inauspicious

Pitru Paksha is considered as inauspicious days as per Hindu tradition, to start any new work or journey. The duration of Pitru Paksha is 15 days after Ganeshji's departure to devlok. Also popularly known as Shradh Paksha.

These days are dedicated to the purvaj (ancestors) and prayers and worships are offered to them to get their blessings.

No purchasing, no marriages, even no talks about setting marriages, no new project or work advised to start.

I always found the scientific reasons to each Hindu tradition, which I have shared from time to time with my readers.

Therefore I strongly feel that there must be some reason behind this as well. From my experience, I guess that environment is not well versed and lot of diseases start spreading (like viral, jaundice), mosquitoes also replicate in large no and bring diseases. So this is the time when People should take care on hygeine and cleanliness and should clean their houses. For these 15 days people get busy completely in cleaning their dwellings and nearby areas. And this is the reason, they are advised not to engage themselves in any newer activities.
